Course candidates will become lifeguards by gaining the necessary skills needed to recognize, prevent and respond to aquatic emergencies. This course is designed to provide participants the knowledge and skills necessary to be a lifeguard and professional rescuer. Participants will be certified in American Safety and Health Institute’s (ASHI) courses: CPR Pro (BLS) for the Professional Rescuer, Basic First Aid for the Community, and Emergency Oxygen Administration.
Prerequisites include swim 300 yards combination of front crawl, breaststroke, and sidestroke (non-stop swimming), tread water for 2 minutes (non-stop) without use of hands or arms, perform a surface dive 9 feet to retrieve a 10 pound brick and swim back holding the brick on top of the water (timed). If certification requirements are not met, certification will not be awarded and no refund will be given.
